About eight persons were injured in a road accident that occurred yesterday (6) on the Puttalam-Anuradhapura road in the Saliyawewa Palugassegama area, Saliyawewa police said.
The accident had occurred when a luxury private bus plying from Vavuniya to Colombo collided with a stationery cab, the police said.
There had been 23 passengers in the bus at the time of the accident and the injured were admitted to the Nochchiyagama Hospital.
The police said that there had been rain in the area at the time, and initial investigations had revealed the accident had occurred due to the inability of the bus driver to control the speed of the bus.
The bus driver has been taken in to custody and further investigations are being carried out by the Motor Traffic OIC, Sub-Inspector Katugampala on the advice of Saliyawewa Police OIC, Chief Inspector K.G.C. Priyadarshana.
