The Department of Elections which completes 60 years today marked the event with a small gathering to celebrate its diamond jubilee.
The main ceremony of celebrating the 60th anniversary was held at the Bandaranaike Ceremonial hall, Colombo with the participation of Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe, as the Chief Guests and the participation of the chief opposition leader, Ministers, Parliamentarians and leading officers of all recognized Political Parties.
A first day cover with a series of commemorative stamps and a commemorative sheet was issued on t by the Postal Department to mark the 60th anniversary of the Department. In addition a commemorative magazine is to be released on this day indicating the 60 years history of the department.
