The public has been warned of false claims that the Ministry of Finance is issuing permits for Sri Lankan expatriate workers to purchase vehicles under tax concessions.
Issuing a statement, the Finance Ministry stated that a fake letter under the letterhead of its Trade and Investment Policy Department, and the name of the Department’s Director-General has been circulating on social media platforms such as Facebook.
"The Finance Ministry has not implemented a scheme to provide permits in order to purchase vehicles under duty concessions," the statement emphasized.
The Finance Ministry urged the public to remain cautious of fraudsters while noting that a fee would not be charged for issuing permits. Any information on the government's tax concession schemes could be viewed on www.treasury.gov.lk.
