A fire had broken out at a building in the Katubedda area along the Colombo - Galle road early his morning.
The Fire Service Department said that a chemical storage facility and a tyre store were located in the building.
Eleven fire trucks from Moratuwa, Dehiwala - Mount Lavinia and Colombo had been dispatched to contain the fire.
Police are yet to ascertain whether there were people inside the building at the time of the fire. The cost of the damages caused to the building is yet to be determined.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
