Even though curfew is currently effective in many regions across the island, fishermen can go to sea and engage in fishing activities without facing any difficulties, Minister of Fisheries Douglus Devananda said today.
Minister Devananda also stressed that those who are engaging in fishing activities and transportation of fish stocks should possess respective Identity Card documents with them during the curfew period.
Visiting the Dikkowita Fisheries Harbour today following complaints of labor shortage to unload fish stocks, the Minister assured that the government has taken steps to ensure fishing activities are continued without any hindrance during the curfew time. Accordingly, lorries transporting fish stocks around the country are allowed to travel from 6.00am to 6.00pm.
