The Fisheries Ministry has warned fishermen from going out to sea due to the threat of a possible cyclone in the Bay of Bengal over the weekend.
Wind speeds are expected between 70 to 80 kmph during this period, the Ministry noted.
Meanwhile, State Fisheries Minister Dileep Wedaarachchi has instructed all Sri Lankan multi-day fishing trawlers in international waters, to reach the closest shore due to the inclement weather.
Other fishing boats as well have been instructed to remain vigilant and adhere to the instructions issued by the Ministry and weather authorities before going out to sea.
The Meteorological Department has also forecasted showers in the seas between Colombo and Galle.
