Five fishermen have been arrested in Kalutara for allegedly beating an 18-year old to death and later dumping his body into the sea.
The arrest was carried out by officers of the Kalutara Criminal Investigations Unit.
It is reported that the boy had gone fishing along with a group of fishermen from Beruwala on October 15 and was tortured and beaten to death.
The body of the victim who has been identified as Tharaka Aravinda Silva, a resident of Bubuluwatte in Beruwala, was dumped into the sea on November 18 after the fishermen had concealed the body within a fishing net.
The Sri Lanak Navy along with the police are currently carrying out a search operation to recover the body of the victim.
