Police have arrested five suspects in connection with the assault on Aluthgama Provincial Journalist and his wife.
A senior police officer in charge of the area said that they were arrested yesterday (Dec 09) and statements from the suspects are currently being recorded.
A journalist attached to the ‘Lankadeepa’ newspaper and his family were attacked by a group of gangsters allegedly involved in the illegal manufacture and trade of bottled toddy in the Aluthgama area on Friday night.
Tusitha Kumar de Silva a correspondent of our sister paper ‘Lankadeepa’ and his wife were assaulted near their home at Hettimulla in Aluthgama.
The gangsters demanded the journalist stop reporting on the illegal manufacture and trade in toddy.
The gangsters had initially entered the journalist’s home, threatened his son and caused damage to the house when he was away. When the couple heard of the attack on their home, they rushed back, but were waylaid and assaulted .
