The Supreme Court today granted Leave to to proceed in a Fundamental Rights petition filed by a medical graduate alleging government authorities have postponed the ACT 16 exam, a prerequisite for foreign graduates who wanted to practice medical profession in Sri Lanka.
The ACT 16 exam or Examination for Registration to Practise Medicine (ERPM) is conducted by the Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC).
The Petitioner Ms S.V. Ranasinghe who graduated from a medical school in Bangaladesh alleged the ACT exams scheduled to be held on May 15 to 18 have been postponed by SLMC.
Health Minister and SLMC are among those named as respondents. The petitioner demanded Rs 1 million as damages due to the postponement of the exams from the Registrar of SLMC.
The Bench consist of Justices Eva Wanasundara, Buwaneka Aluwihare and Vijith Malalgoda. Attorney at Law Shyamal A Collure appeared representing the petitioner. The case is to be taken up for hearing on December 4.
