Former Chairman of the Akuressa Pradeshiya Sabha Saruwa Liyanage Sunil was sentenced to 15 years in rigorous imprisonment today by the Colombo High Court after being found guilty of raping an underaged girl in 2012.
Court also ordered the accused to pay compensation amounting to Rs. 250, 000 to the victim in addition to a fine of Rs. 25, 000.
The Attorney General had indicted the accused of raping the 14-year-old daughter of a couple who worked at his household after taking her to a hotel.
