Wife of former DIG Vass Gunawardene today lodged a complaint at the Commission to investigate allegations of Bribery and Corruption, local media reported. She said the complaint was regarding the former government and a gold deal which was revealed by her husband. Speaking to the media after lodging the complaint she said that this racket involving gold belonging to the treasury was being sold off was revealed during the time when her husband DIG Vass Gunawardene was in charge of Colombo North. She added that it was army intelligence that revealed this racket. Pointing out that when her husband was carrying out investigations she alleged that DIG Anura Senanayake pressured her husband to stop the investigations. She said that it was following this investigation that her husband and son were sent to prison on various allegations. Mrs. Gunawardene alleged that death threats were levelled against her son and herself by various groups who wanted them to remain silent. She also explained to the media after she lodged the complaint that she decided to to come before the bribery commission since the new administration came into power and requested the public to reveal all information they have on irregularities, the former DIG Vaas Gunawardene instructed her to reveal everything.
