Former Finance Minister and current Foreign Minister Ravi Karunanayake has been summoned (Tuesday July 25) by the Presidential Commission probing tainted Central Bank bond issues, as a witness to give evidence.
Attorney General’s (AG) Department sources said that the Minister is to be questioned on certain matters relating to the alleged bond scams during February 2015 and March 2016 when he was serving as the Finance Minister.
The Commission is likely to question him on his involvement in the bond issue when he was holding the Finance Ministerial portfolio and his understandings about certain facts in the transactions, these sources revealed.
The decision to call the Minister to give evidence was first reported in a local newspaper on Monday.
The Commission comprises Supreme Court judges, K.T. Chitrasiri and P.S. Jayawardena and retired deputy Auditor General K. Velupillai. Additional Solicitor General Dappula de Livera PC has informed the Presidential Commission that the recording of evidence of state witnesses by the AG’s office is to be concluded by July 31.
