Four Bangladeshi nationals and two locals who attempted to abduct a 12 year old school boy returning from tution classes were arrested in Katugastota yesterday, Police said.
Officer in Charge of the Katugastota police, Chief Inspector W.M.S.Uvindasiri told Timesonline that the student was walking along the Menikkumbura road after classes when persons got off a van and tried to drag the boy into the van.
The student’s father who was waiting for his son to return from classes had been in the vicinity and immdeitely rushed to the scene and rescued his son, but the van had fled the area.
Villagers had alerted the police and the within a short time the van was located within the Katugastota town and the suspects were arrested.
The suspects had reportedly rented out a house in Katugastota for a telecommunication project . one of the locals arrested was from Galagedara and the other from Kadawatha.
The suspects are due to be produced in courts on Monday.
