Fuel crisis a killer blow to three-wheelers

The present fuel crisis has had a devastating impact on three-wheeler drivers, with some 3.8 million dependants facing the prospect of going hungry due to three-wheeler drivers not being able to do their jobs, lamented Sudhil Jayaruk,  President of the All Island Three-Wheel Drivers’ and Owners’ Association. 

Mr Jayaruk pointed out that daily lives of three-wheeler drivers have been hit hard by the crisis. "Most of our time is spent in petrol queues. How are we to make ends meet?" he queried. 

Mr Jayaruk blamed the Government squarely for not being able to manage the crisis. "They have Ministers for these subjects for a reason. How could they let this get so out of control?"

With the crisis set to drag on at least until Thursday (9) when a fuel ship is expected to dock in Colombo, Mr Jayaruk noted that some 800, 000 three-wheeler drivers and owners were now faced with the prospect of spending yet more hours on petrol queues. 

He claimed the country's politicians were only interested in defeating each other at elections, rather than working effectively to resolve issues.
