Testing of fuel samples from the fuel tanker ‘Naveska Lady’ has already commenced and the results are expected before this afternoon.
Accordingly, if the samples are found to meet with Sri Lanka's specifications, unloading of the fuel and distribution will begin by this afternoon.
The tanker, arriving from Dubai is carrying 40, 000 Metric Tonnes (MT) of fuel and its arrival has been much anticipated in the country, owing to the ongoing petrol crisis.
Long queues were seen at filling stations this morning as well, but authorities expect the situation to return to normal by tomorrow (10) once fuel from the tanker is unloaded and distribution begins.
