Minister Gamini Jayawickrama Perera today (Sept 17) appeared before the a Presidential Commission to give evidence over a corruption case concerning the Mahapola Trust Fund.
A complaint has filed at the Presidential Commission probing state sector corruption alleging that the Mahapola Trust Fund had signed illegal documents to transfer the Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT) to a private business.
Minister Perera had been summoned before the Commission on September 9 but had sought another date to give evidence since he had turned up without the required documents.
He had been asked to give evidence over the case since he had been the Minister of Higher Education during which the fraud is alleged to have occured.
The Mahapola Trust Fund which disburses allowance for students pursuing higher education at state universities falls under the Ministry of Higher Education.
Former Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe had filed a complaint over this matter at the Presidential Commission of Inquiry (PCoI) which is probing state sector corruption under the current government.
