The Galle District Secretary has issued a gazette announcing that Elpitiya Pradeshiya Sabha elections would be held on October 11.
The polls had been suspended by the Supreme Court in 2017 after the National United Democratic Front (NUDF) had challenged the Elections Commission (EC) decision to reject their nomination paper.
Accordingly, court had issued a order last month directing the EC to accept the nomination paper and to conduct the polls.
Sources at the EC told Times Online that the 2018 voter registration list would be used for the polls and that around 53,000 voters are expected to cast their votes at some 50 polling centres.
Five political parties would be contesting the elections, EC Chairman Mahinda Deshapriya said.
