The GMOA has refuted recent claims made by the Health Minister Rajitha Senaratne that Sri Lanka was capable of producing only 10 % of the liquid milk requirement for the country.
Issuing a statement, the GMOA claimed that through existent data, the country was producing 40% of the total liquid milk requirement.
The statement drew reference to a Census and Statistics Departments report during a meeting with medical officers concerned.
"Amidst this backdrop the Health Minister is making remarks to mislead the public while continuing to support milk powder production companies," Secretary of the GMOA Dr. Haritha Aluthge said in the statement.
The Association added that it would substantiate its claims by using statistics from the Auditor General's Department in due course.
