The Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) today said they do not view taking over the Neville Fernando Hospital under the Government’s purview as a solution to the issue of South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine (SAITM).
Addressing a media briefing Dr. Samantha Ananda, the Media Spokesman of the GMOA stated thatthe tri-party agreement signed to hand over the Neville Fernando Hospital to the Government, was a sublease of the hospital and not a complete hand over to the government.
He queried regarding the standards of the Neville Fernando hospital of becoming a Teaching Hospital.
“When a hospital is not even have facilities of that of a Base Hospital how can they automatically pass off as a Teaching Hospital with all the short-comings”, he said.
