The Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) has warned that doctor's would withdraw from their services in the North and East, if transfer issues are not resolved within a week.
Issuing a statement, the GMOA accused Health Minister Rajitha Senaratne of arbitrarily cancelling the transfer list of doctors serving in the Northern and Eastern Provinces of the country.
The union also warned that it would engage in an indefinite strike along with government service executive officers if salary anomalies arise in their sector.
The All Island Service Executive Officers’ Joint Committee is expected to launch an indefinite strike from September 18 citing unresolved salary issues.
The GMOA also threatened trade union action if demands such as the increment of Disturbance, Availability and Transport (DAT) allowances for doctors, setting standards for medical education, and the quality of pharmaceutical drugs are not resolved in due course.
These decisions had been made during the GMOA Central Committee meeting which was held today (Sept 16).
