Government doctors launched a token strike across all state hospitals in Kalutara from 12 noon today until 8 am tomorrow (Jun 25), the GMOA said.
The GMOA had launched a 'People's No-Confidence Motion' against the Health Minister at the District General Hospital in Kalutara.
However, a group including the Kalutara Mayor had allegedly arrived and disrupted the proceedings, the medical officers body stated.
They explained that a token strike action was then announced to protest against this group and the Police who did not take appropriate action in this regard.
Accordingly the strike would be in effect at the Kalutara General Hospital, Panadura Base Hospital, Horana Base Hospital, National Institute of Health Sciences, and more than 50 divisional health centres in Kalutara, the union said.
Around 1000 doctors are expected to engage in the strike.
