The Ministry of Health has declared an island wide National Mosquito Prevention Week commenced from September 10 to 16, Health Services Director General Dr. Palitha Mahipala said while addressing a media conference held at Government Information Department today. He pointed out that an island wide cleaning campaigns on identified mosquito breeding places as well as awareness programmes will be carried out with the aim of eradicating dengue epidemic before the inclement weather conditions expected in next few months. During the Dengue Prevention Week health officials with the assistance of the security forces will inspect houses and building premises to check for dengue breeding places and issue a citation where dengue breeding places are identified. According to the Government Information Department, the Ministry has requested the public to extend support to the health officials who visit the households by cleaning their premises during this period.
