A decision has been taken to increase the number of students admitted to State medical faculties by a further 350. The decision was taken during a meeting chaired by Education Minister G.L. Peiris on September 4, the Education Ministry stated.
The move is a primary step towards ensuring that all those who qualify to gain admittance to university can obtain a degree or have a pathway towards obtaining a degree in keeping with the vision laid out by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa in his "Vistas of Prosperity and Splendour."
The Education Ministry added that during the meeting, Minister Peiris instructed the University Grants Commission (UGC) to take steps to significantly increase the number of students admitted to State universities this year when compared to previous years.
Accordingly, the number of students admitted to medical faculties based on results of the 2019 GCE Advanced Level examination will be significantly increased.
