The Government is to impose a ban on the import of corn and peanuts in view to protect local farmers and cultivators.
State Minister of Rural Development Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena told Times Online that the decision was taken following a meeting with the Agriculture Ministry.
He said the decision was taken as the import of such food items were affecting local farmers. The ban on the import of corn and peanuts is to come into effect at the end of the month
