Govt to take every possible step to prevent kidney disease

President Maithripala Sirisena said that the government will take every possible step to control the kidney disease which is the sorrowful story of Rajarata people.

He made these observations participating at the concluding ceremony of the National Kidney Disease Education Programs organized by the Presidential Task Force on Prevention of Kidney Diseases, held at the Galle Face Hotel yesterday..

The President further said that the government worked with a commitment during the past ten months to conduct significant works for the benefit of the Kidney patients and the government has also taken steps in island wide to conduct awareness programs on kidney disease and to provide more doctors and medical equipment.

He pointed out that the bottled water in the market is not a solution for the control of the kidney disease in our country.
He added that the government has already taken steps to install water purification machines in a systematic way.

The President emphasized that special attention should be paid for using agricultural chemicals when farming and he further said that everyone should fulfill their responsibilities to save our people from this tragedy and should conduct broad awareness programs.

President Maithripala Sirisena declared open the newly buildWater Purification and RecyclingFacility in Medirigiriya, Thissapurausing the satellite technology.In parallel to this event the Kidney Disease Prevention Unit of the Medirigiriya Base Hospital also declared open by the President.

The donations to the National Kidney Fund were officially handed over to the President. CleanCo Lanka (Pvt) Ltd donated 5 million rupees and the Sri Lanka Telecom PLC donated 2 million rupees while the Department of Motor Traffic donated one million rupees and the chairman of the Galle Face Hotel , Sanjeev Gardiner donated fifty four lakhs for the fund.

Ministers Rajitha Senaratne, Duminda Dissanayake, S.B. Dissanayake, Deputy Minister Mohammad Qasim , Mr. Asela Iddawela project director of the Presidential Task Force on Prevention of Kidney Diseases and others participated in the event.
