Hambantota Mayor Eraj Fernando and another individual have been sentenced to five years in prison by the Provincial High Court today (Aug 2).
The suspects have been accused of threatening a group of parliamentarians who had been on an inspection tour at the Hambantota Port, using a pistol. The incident had taken place in April 2014.
Meanwhile, three others who had acused of involvement in the incident, had been acquitted by the High Court during today's hearing.
