A 'Hartal' campaign was held in Trincomalee today (May 10) demanding that Eastern Governor M.L.A.M. Hizbullah be removed from his position over alleged claims of his involvement in propogating terrorism in the country.

Meanwhile, a Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) bus which was seen operating along the Trinco - Kandy main road had been attacked by area residents who hurled stones at the vehicle.
Tyres too were set on fire in the Uppeveli and China Bay areas as a gesture of protest against the Governor. However, Police had arrived at the scene and had managed to douse the fire.
Further, Kantale pradeshiya sabha member Vijaya Wickrama Lamahewa also commenced a fast-unto-death (Satyagraha) campaign opposite the Kantale Pradeshiya Sabha urging the removal of Governor Hizbullah.
Tri-forces, Police, and civil security forces personnel were deployed for security across the area.
