Head-on bus crash injures 52
Fifty-two persons sustained injuries after a head-on collission between a Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) bus and private bus at a junction in Kiyaduwa, Akuressa this morning.
A senior police officer stated 31 females and 21 males were among the injured. Several of the injured are children.
They were admitted to the Akuressa hospital and six who were in serious condition were later transferred to the Matara hospital for treatment.
The private bus had been on its way from Weligama to Akuressa while the SLTB bus was headed for Colombo from Akuressa when the incident occurred.
The drivers of both buses are among the injured. Akuressa police have commenced investigations into the accident.
