The Health Ministry will launch a hotline to facilitate hospitals in obtaining drugs, as the government seeks to meet the shortage of drugs across many state hospitals recently.
According to the Ministry, state-run hospitals would be able to contact the hotline called Medi Call on 0766474777, and obtain life saving drugs as well as emergency drugs in case of any shortage.
Requirements made through the hotline would see steps being taken to provide the required drugs, disbursement of funds to purchase drugs, or import medicines within a day by air cargo, the Ministry added.
The hotline would be operated by the Ceylon Pharmaceuticals Corporation and the Medical Supplies Division (MSD) of the Ministry of Health.
According to the MSD, around 200 varieties of expensive drugs including 20 types of cancer drugs have already been stocked in order to be distributed when required.
