Heavy rains and gale winds of above 60-70 kmph are expected over the island today as well, the Meteorology Department has warned.
Heavy rains or thundershowers, strong winds and rough seas are expected in most part of the island. Very heavy falls of about100-150mm are expected at some places in the Southern, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Western and Uva provinces.
The depression in the South-West part of the island has developed into a deep depression and it is located 200 km away from Colombo, the Met. Department said adding that the depression is expected to further develop and to move towards the Arabian Sea area.

A Sri Lanka Air Force Bell 212 helicopter belonging to the No. 72 squadron has crashed into the Madhuru Oya reservoir this morning, Air FOrce Media Spokesman Eranda Geeganage said.
Update: Five of the twelve passengers on board the bell 212 aircraft that crashed into the Maduru Oya today, have succumbed to their injuries, the SLAF said.
