Heavy rains and landslides claimed the lives of eight while more than 80,000 people were affected by floods in the districts of Colombo, Kalutara, Ratnapura, Kegalle and NuwaraEliya.
The Disaster Management Centre (DMC) reported five deaths from the Kegalle district yesterday when an earth mound collapsed into a house.
It is reported that the DMC sought Tri Forces’ assistance to assist in rescue missions and provide safe locations and dry rations to all those evacuated due to the floods.
Landslide warnings have been issued in Badulla, Monaragala, Kandy, Ratnapura, Kurunegala, Nuwara Eliya, Kegalle, Matale and Kalutara districts.
