Former Defence Secretary Hemasiri Fernando, has been asked to give evidence before a Presidential Commission on October 21, after he failed to appear today, citing health concerns.
The Former Defence Secretary has been remanded in an ongoing case filed against him for his failure to prevent the Easter Sunday terrorist attacks.
Accordingly, the Prisons Commissioner General had informed the Presidential Commission of Inquiry (PCoI) probing state sector corruption, that Fernando would not be able to give evidence today, considering advice by his doctors.
Fernando had been asked to give evidence over alleged financial irregularities that had occurred during the process of developing the digital platform of the People's Bank, during his tenure as its Chairman between 2016 and 2017.
