The Colombo High Court today set aside the order issued by the Colombo Chief Magistrate granting bail to former Health Minister Rajitha Senaratne over the so-called 'white van press conference.'
In his order invalidating the order given by Colombo Chief Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne, Colombo High Court Judge Manjula Thilakarathna said that it was extremely regretable that the Colombo Chief Magistrate had disregarded the facts presented by Deputy Solicitor General Dileepa Peiris who appeared for the Attorney General that based on his conduct, there was a risk of Mr Senaratne avoiding court. The High Court Judge further stated that he was setting aside the order issued by the Colombo Chief Magistrate given that it has resulted in a miscarriage of justice.
He further ordered the Colombo Chief Magistrate to take steps to summon the suspect before court and take relevant action.
