State Minister for Higher Education Mohan Lal Grero told the representatives of the Inter University Students Federation (IUSF) that the issue of the Higher National Diploma in Accountancy (HNDA) would be settled within two weeks, local media reported.
The minister added that Higher Education and Highways Minister Laksman Kiriella has submitted a Cabinet Paper seeking approval to empower a previous Circular which had granted degree status to the HNDA course.
Grero said so yesterday afternoon while holding talks with Inter University Students Federation (IUSF ) representatives at the Higher Education Ministry.
The Inter University Students Federation staged a protest march yesterday against the the Police attack on HNDA students recently and on several other demands, including the banning of Malabe Private Medical College.
IUSF members of several universities and members of the HNDA collective had joined the march together with the Inter University Bhikku Students Federation, Medial College Students activists and several other students' organizations.
