The Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka will issue its recommendations regarding the abuse of prisoners at the Angunakopalessa prison, following the completion of their on-going inquiries.
Issuing a statement on the recent media reports on the assault of the inmates, the Commission said it visited the prison, obtained statements from the prisoners and requested the Suprintendent of Prisons to produce those inmates who alleged to have been assaulted to be examined by the JMO.
Further, the commission said it had been carrying out follow up visits in December 2018 and had even summoned the Suprintendent as well as the Commissioner General of Prisons for inquiries regarding the incident.
