When the islandwide curfew was lifted today morning except in six districts, locals in the Upcountry region flocked into nearby markets to buy groceries and other essential goods while following health advisories of wearing masks and keeping social distance.
Hundreds of locals waited for hours in front of Sathosa outlets and other private run supermarkets in Hatton, Kotagala and Bogawantalawa areas since curfew was continuously effective since April 2.
Police and Tri- Forces took measures to mark slots for the public to maintain social distancing while waiting for their turn to purchase goods. Police security was provided near places where the public gathered to fulfill their day to day activities.Limited transport was made available since the curfew was lifted for eight hours.
The ongoing curfew imposed in the districts of Colombo, Gampaha, Kalutara, Puttalam, Kandy and Jaffna which have been identified as High Risk Zones will continue until further notice while in all other districts, curfew was lifted at 6.00am today and will be re-imposed at 2.00 pm on the same day, according to Presidential Media Division (PMD).
