Inspector General of Police (IGP), Pujith Jayasundara has ordered the immediate transfer of 15 police officers attached to the Special Investigation Unit of the Southern Province.
It is reported that the IGP had given this directive against the backdrop of ongoing investigations into the abduction and disappearance of two businessmen in the Rathgama area.
Police said that the 15 officers who were engaged in the duties of the Special Investigation Unit at the time of the abduction of the businessmen have been ordered to be transfered to police stations outside the Matara District.
Meanwhile, an Inspector attached to the Southern Province Special Investigation Unit is currently in remand custody, while another sub inspector was taken in today (Feb 22) for questioning by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).
