Illegal motorcycle importers have been granted and extended amnesty period to register the bikes they have imported, the cabinet has decided.
Accordingly those who have imported motorcycles upto 450 CC illegally will be given time until end of next month to register the bike.
Since the facility was provided 1,558 such bikes have registered and 2,500 have sent applications for registrations.
The cabinet proposal, by the Transport Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva is aimed at given an opportunity to voluntarily register the illegally imported motorcycles before the Police cracks down on those who using illegally imported bikes.
