A total of 273 buses belonging to the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) that had been taken out of service due to being in a dilapidated condition were repaired and re-introduced for passenger transportation today (31) under the patronage of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa during a ceremony at Galle Face Green.
The buses will be utilized to meet the passenger transportation needs in rural areas throughout the country, the President's Media Division (PMD) stated.
The 273 buses that were left in delapidated condition at 107 deposts throughout the island have been repaired at a cost of Rs 115 million.
The project, based on a concept of State Minister of Vehicle Regulation, Bus Transport Services, Train Compartments and Motor Car Industry Dilum Amunugama was implemented under the guidance of Transport Minister Gamini Lokuge.
