The Government today (13) allowed liquor shops to open in areas where curfew has been lifted. In the Colombo and Gampaha districts, where curfew is still in effect, only licensed supermarkets have been permitted to sell alcohol.
Not long after the announcement was made, long queues started forming outside supermarkets selling alcohol in Colombo. Though only state and private sector employees who are reporting for work are supposed to be in Colombo while others are supposed to stay home, it was notable to see that large crowds were still flocking to purchase liquor.
