India condoles the death of Ven.Maduluwawe Sobitha thero

On behalf of the Government and people of India, High Commissioner of India, Y.K. Sinha, has extended his condolences to the people and Government of Sri Lanka on the sad demise of Ven. Maduluwawe Sobitha Thero.

A strong advocate of further deepening spiritual and cultural ties that bind India and Sri Lanka, the late Ven. Sobitha Thero worked tirelessly for closer relations between our two countries, the High Commissioner said in a statement. He visited India on numerous occasions and we will always cherish our close association with him, Sinha was quoted in the statement as saying. As a leading member of the Mahasangha and civil society, he championed political reform, good governance and eradication of corruption. His valuable contribution to Sri Lanka will always be remembered, the Indian High Commissioner further emphasised.
