The Indian Coast Guard Ship (ICGS) Shoor is currently on a goodwill visit to Sri Lanka from March 30 to April 3. The ICGS Shoor was instrumental in dousing the fire on MSC Daniela on April 4 last year off the Sri Lankan coast.

Last year, the Indian Coast Guard threw its weight behind the Sri Lanka Navy to douse the fire onboard container carrier “MSC Daniela” off the Colombo port. The Indian Coast Guard ship “Shoor”, continued its firefighting efforts, assisting the Sri Lanka Navy for the third successive day.

In the eventuality of the fire spreading, Sri Lanka Navy requested assistance from the Indian High Commission at that time, as there was a Coast Guard vessel (ICGS ‘Shoor’) that was on a goodwill visit berthed at the Colombo harbour. The Indian High Commission promptly replied to the request made by the Sri Lanka Navy, dispatching ICGS ‘Shoor’ to assist in extinguishing fire onboard the distressed vessel.

Captain of  ICGS Shoor M.Murugan told a group reporters who was on a tour to the ship today that the visit was intend to strengthen bilateral ties enjoyed by two countries' Navies and further future collaboration. The ship is scheduled to leave the Colombo port tomorrow.
