The injured engineer of the MT New Diamond oil tanker which ran into distress off Sri Lanka's East coast, was admitted to Base Hospital by the Sri Lanka Navy last evening.
The engineer, a Filipino national and other crew members had been rescued by another passing merchant vessel, the MV Helen. The rescued crew members were subsequently transferred to SLN vessels. The injured engineer was transferred to a navy Dovra vessel and brought ashore as his condition was more serious than the others.
The victim is now out of danger, hospital authorities confirmed.
Meanwhile, Army Commander Lt. Gen. Shavendra Silva is due to visit Kalmunai today and will then travel by boat to the location of the burning vessel. (PCK)
