Teams from the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health will be conducting inspections of schools from next week to check whether school authorities have implemented health sector guidelines issued in preparation for the reopening of schools.
An Education Ministry source said they will be checking to see whether schools have installed handwashing facilities and other COVID-19 prevention measures that had been laid out in health guidelines sent to schools.
Meanwhile, tenders have been called to purchase over 10, 000 thermometers for schools to check temperatures of students. The Education Ministry hopes to provide at least one thermometer per 200 students in national schools while provincial authorities have been told to ensure at least one thermometer is provided to smaller provincial schools.
The Education Ministry is to access the situation later this month after the inspections to determine when students can be called back for lessons.
