The Chairman of the Kalutara Urban Council has been arrested for violating quarantine laws.
The suspect was arrested by Kalutara South Police on charges of violating quarantine laws, illegal assembly and damaging property.
The UC Chairman was taken into custody in connection with an incident which occurred on June 23, when a group of persons broke open the locks of the Vernon Fernando Ground in Kalutara and forcibly entered the premises.
Acting on a complaint by the ground's manager, police had earlier arrested two other suspects including the Opposition Leader of the Kalutara Pradeshiya Sabha in connection with the incident on June 26.
