The Disaster Management Centre have issued warnings that five districts are to have landslide treats, thefore residents in areas that are prone to risks are advice to evacuvate.
The Deputy Director of the Disaster Management Centre, Pradeep Kodippili said people in Ratnapura, Nuwara Eliya, Kegalle, Galle and Kalutara are told to evacuate.
He said that the National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) have warned Divisional Secretariat areas in Ratnapura ,Kuruwita, Kiriella, and Elapatha that the heavy rains over 100 mm can cause landslides, slope failures, Rock falls. Therefore they have been told to remain vigilant and to evacuate residents from the areas if needed.
The Meteorology Department said that highest rainfall was reported at Ratnapura, Katunayake where over 100mmof rain was reported. Colombo and Rathmalana had the next highest rainfalls.
