Lankan bomb threat accused faces hearing in Melbourne Magistrates Court

News

A Sri Lankan man accused of making mid-air bomb threats that forced a flight from Melbourne to Kuala Lumpur to abort has again faced court.

According to Nine News, Manodh Marks appeared via video link in the Melbourne Magistrates' Court on Thursday for a committal mention.

He allegedly made threats that forced Malaysia Airlines to abort its overnight flight 128 bound for Kuala Lumpur on May 31, and is charged with endangering the safety of an aircraft and making false threats, both of which are federal offences.

He has not applied for bail.

The court has previously been told that Marks, who suffers from a psychiatric illness, holds fears for his safety in custody.

His defence lawyer previously cited Marks' age - 25 when he last faced court in June - and appearance as reasons for his vulnerability in prison.

Marks had been living at Dandenong on a student visa.
