An individual who had swindeled money from locals promising them jobs in hotels in Germany was arrested by the Foreign Employment Bureau (FEB) Investigation Unit in Ampara and is due to be produced in courts, today, a spokesman for the FEB said.
The Bureau had received information that the individual was trying to flee the country.
The man had offered jobs to two individuals if they agreed to pay Rs. 2 million and collected an advance of Rs. 1.1 million.
The man claimed he had contacts with the Prime Minister’s Secretary and Cabinet Ministers, and that he was a close friend of Higher Education Minister Wijeyadasa Rakapaksha’s brother-in-law, in an attempt to gain the confidence of his victims.
