President Maithripala Sirisena will declare open the Lotus Tower – South Asia’s largest tower measuring 350 metres in Colombo on September 16, an official at the Presidential Secretariat said.
A sum of USD 104 million has been spent for the construction of the tower out of which 80 percent of the cost has been borne by the Chinese Exim Bank.
The tower comprises a telecommunications museum, a hotel, a restaurant, an auditorium, a conference hall, a ballroom and an observation deck.
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, opposition leader Mahinda Rajapaksa and several other Parliamentarians are expected to attend the opening ceremony.
Recently, cabinet approval was granted to set-up a state body in order to handle the administration activities of the tower.
