Speaker Karu Jayasuriya has announced that Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa will be appointed to the role of Opposition Leader and Mahinda Amaraweera as Chief Opposition Whip with effect from today (Dec 18).
This was following the UPFA's decision to nominate Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa to the role of Opposition leader.
The decision to do so was arrived was following a discussion held between the MPs of the UPFA which commenced at 10 am at the Presidential Secretariat today (Dec 18).
Meanwhile, the United National Party has decided to appoint Lakshman Kiriella as the leader of the House while Gayantha Karunathilaka will be appointed as the Chief Government whip.
